British Military Radio SetDear Community,

a lot of people behave like idiots when using a microphone, and that’s fine for them… but not for us. Simply, because we expect some basic manners from other persons, no matter if playing a game or not.

We think, it’s good manner to:
  • Always behave like in a real life conversation
  • Don’t talk all the time, give others the chance to say something too
  • Listen to others, respond
  • Recognize, if you annoy people

Basic stuff you would do when talk to someone in RL. But when it comes to in-game stuff, many players act unbelievable rude. It’s absolutely ok to talk about other things than games… as long as players CAN request support or give orders IF and WHEN  they want it:

  • We’re here to play. We want to have fun PLAYING. If you hear someone giving in game commands, shut up with your private stuff until things cool down in game.
  • Adapt your speech to the situation. Boring game = a lot of side conversation. The more heat, the less talking.
  • Provide need information… shorten your text. “Medic down, two more enemies from east behind the wall.”
  • Why you tell us if you’re drunk or stoned? Are you 12 years old and proud of you first cigarette or what? Only stupid fuck*s are proud to use drugs anyway, lol :D
  • Never sing (except someone asked you to sing). No, you are NOT funny.

You can try to use perfect special forces commands for conversations. We do NOT recommend that, simply because a lot players are fine to learn some new things, but most don’t like strict rules.

Give your team mates some hints and guidelines, but no rules. They will try it, see the benefit and change the way they communicate… if your rules are too strong, most players don’t even want to try it, you will not get any “buy-in”.

For us it turned out, a mixture between “normal” speech and “military commands” works best.

  • Use  “Alpha”, Bravo” instead of “A” and “B”, because it’s better to understand under fire.
  • Use directions if possible “East” or “behind you” instead of "in a house"
  • Be accurate if you can (“two inside the building near antenna, one ran away to the woods”)
  • Tell what you do , BEFORE you do it (this gives your team the chance to help or to warn you)
  • Ask for support BEFORE you go in (3 guns are better than one… most of the time)
  • Tell, when you die (but only a simple “I’m down, someone from the right”)
  • On good working teams: tell who you killed (so your team can focus on others when they don’t see if someone is dead or just hiding) (“Enemy medic down, engineer ran away”)
Some examples how we communicate:
  1. Player 1: We need a medic… anyone?
  2. Player 2: nah, I want to kill some snipers, sry.
  3. Player 3: Nah, not me.
  4. Player 4: ok, I do it.
  5. Player 3: I go to Bravo.
  6. Player 1: Better go to Alpha, more cover on the way.
  7. Player 2: so what? A or B?
  8. Player 3: ok, Alpha then.
  9. Player 4: I join on your position.
  10. Player 2: I’m down… watch out your left!
  11. Player 3: Where?
  12. Player 1: No idea, somewhere near the house.
  13. Player 3: K, I see them. Two enemies at building.
  14. Player 4: Wait, I need to reload.
  15. Player 2: I come in 5 seconds.
  16. Player 1: Need 7 secs.
  17. Player 2: Tell me when all are ready, we attack then.
  18. Player 1: ready.
  19. Player 3: ready.
  20. Player 4: ready… shit, dead. Sniper behind us!
  21. Player 2: and another plan goes down the drains J.

In game commands/reports:

It’s helpful to agree on shorter commands.
